I went to the second night of the Muizenberg Jazz Festival at the Masque Theatre yesterday. What a pleasure! Beautiful music from MSMF, McCoy Mrubata and Buddy Wells. And if the Ella tribute lacked energy, trumpeter Marco Maritz certainly made up for it. I couldn’t stay for Ramon Alexander but I’m sure that was a great set too. Congrats to Ulla Gosebrink and Muriel Marco for staging this quality event. May they receive some serious (as in financial) support for the Muizenberg Jazz Festival 2018.
Thank you Muriel Marco, Ulla Gosebrink and everyone else that helped. You have been brave to take on such an ambitious venture, and pull it off. The artists and audiences certainly appreciate your efforts, and we can only encourage you to do it again and grow it into a much-needed annual event.
I just want to say a huge THANK YOU to you, Ulla, for bringing such wonderful music to Muizenberg. The Jazz Festival was amazing, so much extraordinary talent, and I hope the first of many jazz festivals in Muizenberg. Your monthly Sunday evening Foyer Sessions are always wonderful, even when they don’t get the turn out they deserve. You have hung on in there, and I know the hard work that goes into organizing it with very little reward. But you have done it and put Muizenberg on the map as a place to go and listen to outstanding jazz! Well done Ulla and thank you for bringing us wonderful music.
Well done and thank you Muizenberg Jazz Festival, for organizing a great series of concerts over the last weekend, featuring some excellent local music. Hanepoot Big Band felt privileged to be invited and thoroughly enjoyed performing on Friday night. We truly hope you are up to what is obviously a monumental task again next year, and that you’re able to rope in some support and healthy sponsorship to make it worth your while. Our local music scene is so much in need of this kind of event, and having put in all this effort to make it happen once, it would be fantastic if it can become an annual event.
This festival was indeed worth the drive from Durbanville to Muizenberg a thousand times over!! Eclectic mix of artists, reasonably priced tickets, smiles all around the theatre on the faces of those behind and in front the counters and at the doors, and many other small wins I could mention. Ulla, you can be sure that it was worth the effort – least from my point of view. Yes there are some areas to improve upon, but they were in the minority, and I am sure most sensible festival-goers have an understanding mindset in that regard. So I thank you for the vision and time and effort put into setting up this glorious weekend of jazz. I for one will do my utmost to attend the next one. Thanks again for an incredible night of live jazz!
There have been a lot of accolades passed to the musicians – deservedly so. However, there has been little mention about the person who stuck her neck out and pulled off this inaugural event. So this is a BIG THANK YOU from all of us who attended the festival – Thank You to Ulla Gosebrink and her Team for venturing and succeeding exceedingly.
Just got back from the Jazz Festival in Muizenberg and heard Muriel Marco and her band, whom I knew from the time she lived as a student together with a friend of mine. In all these years I haven’t seen or heard her, and she’s a great musician! She manages her own band and the backstage of the Jazz Festival. I think she outdid herself and I’m thankful that I was able to be part of this evening. It was great! I got really spoiled and I got a CD of the music we heard this evening. Thanks, Thanks!!!
This weekend the first ever Muizenberg Jazz festival takes place, please do your part and get those tickets now!! to ensure we keep this great event on the annual calendar. I’ve had the privilege of getting to witness all the behind the scenes hard work by an amazing super-human team, Ulla Gosebrink, Muriel Marco, and Karen Jordi since earlier this year.
Ulla Gosebrink, congratulations and thank you for pursuing your dream and putting on the Muizenberg Jazz Festival 2017 #MJF2017 It was a jazz festival where artists performed original music or the music of other South African musicians. Thank you to the artists who continue to play their own original music. May radio stations begin to see the light and play more SA music. Congratulations and well done to the support team and sponsors who believed in this event and those who implemented and did the work so that we could have a fantastic time. It was worth every Rand I paid. I am certainly looking forward to next year’s #MJF Well done to you and your team!
Congratulations and well done on helping to make the Muizenberg Jazz Festival a reality. It is wonderful to see the admirable work that has gone into this – much respect to you Ulla, Muriel, and the rest of the team. I sit in envy seeing the publicity and so wish I could attend – I’m unfortunately away from Cape Town (in France) at this time and will only be back in town briefly sometime next year. All the very best and most of all I trust that audiences will give back by attending to help make this festival a permanent fixture on the annual calendar. I will be encouraging my friends to attend.
